A.J.'s New Jersey Polar Plunge

Camp Sunshine is pleased to announce the 2008 A.J.'s New Jersey Polar Plunge. We believe that together we can send many more children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to our one-of-a-kind retreat in Maine.

To date, the New Jersey Polar Plunge has raised $80,000 for Camp Sunshine! With the strength of an event such as the A.J.'s New Jersey Polar Plunge and the resources of Camp Sunshine, it is our goal to raise in excess of $50,000 in 2009. That is enough to send more than 32 families to Camp Sunshine.

Why a New Jersey based event for a camp in Maine?

Since the start of Camp Sunshine in 1984, we have provided a haven for more than 24,000 family members from 46 states and 15 countries. More than 800 of these families have come from New Jersey. In fact, in 2007 alone, nearly 100 New Jersey families applied to participate in our program. Sadly, even with multiple sessions being added annually at Camp Sunshine, there are still many more children from New Jersey being newly diagnosed each year.

A.J. Cincotta-Eichenfield was literally born into Camp. It is his second home and he is as much a part of Camp Sunshine as the concrete in the floors. He is the son of Psychosocial Director, Nancy Cincotta and Medical Director, Andrew Eichenfield. He has seen thousands of families with ill children come through the doors of Camp Sunshine and has made many friends along the way. One day in late February, A.J. decided to do something for Camp. The plunge was perfect! He began asking family and friends to pledge to his plunge. Support for the most famous face at Camp Sunshine came snowballing in.

Our program continues to be recommended by the following New Jersey treatment centers: Hackensack University Medical Center, Monmouth Medical Center, Morristown Memorial Hospital, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital/The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, and St. Barnabas Hospital.
